Fitness for Busy Professionals

During any busy professional's lives, scheduling and balance are two important elements to maintaining your health and fitness. You've probably heard this stated before, but your exercise needs to be scheduled into your daily and weekly plans. It's too easy to just forget about doing it if you don't make it a priority. Believe me, during hectic periods, exercise is a major stress reliever so don't skip it.

What if you just have to cut back? Do something more intense! If you normally walk 30 to 40 minutes and you have only 20 minutes available, increase your over all speed. Another strategy is to integrate interval training into your fitness program, such as walking as fast as possible for one minute and then returning to a slower pace. Adding "stairs or steps" into a walk really increases the intensity. Did you ever try to go up and down a flight a stairs for 5 minutes without stopping? On days when time is especially short, take two 10-minute sessions. I guarantee you will be glad you did.

Balancing priorities is a difficult task. Once again the daily and weekly planners help to organize your time. Once you know your daily agenda, you may be able to accomplish an errand on the way and thus save time later in the week. And with gas prices rising we may all have to think of consolidating errands and eliminating some of those frequent stops like the grocery. Perhaps you can shop online and save time.

Lastly, remember to "be in the moment" as much as possible. Savor an activity for whatever it is and stop thinking ahead of what you have yet to do, or what you perhaps forgot to do. A graduation ceremony is only a few hours of time, but a memory forever. Be there and feel the pomp and circumstance.
