Gym Size and Space – If you want to know everyone at the gym and work closely with a great trainer, a small gym is probably for you. But, if you want to disappear into the crowd and just have time to yourself, go with the big gym. Just remember that big gyms treat you like a number, not a person, but to some of us that’s worth it for the cost and machinery.

Changing Rooms – Personally, I don’t worry about my gym’s locker and changing rooms because I rarely use them. However, if you’re going to shower and change for work at your gym, be sure to check out the locker rooms and make sure they have good hygiene and facilities and that you won’t be stepping over someone mess.

Fitness Classes – Do you like workout classes or want to give them a shot? Be sure to look at their class list and schedule before signing up for a gym. Some gyms have a ton of classes and options, while others might have few or no classes to speak of at all.

Gym Location – If your gym isn’t really close to your home or to your work, then you’re not going to make the effort to go. Plain and simple. If it’s not easy to get to, then it’s not worth your money. Find a closer gym instead.
